Sam’s
Salon Line-up for ‘08
Welcome
to Sam’s Salon - a monthly series of tele-interviews with leading-edge
IDEAprenuers who are earning a
good living developing, marketing and monetizing commercially-viable ideas
on the stage, page, online, and in the media.
What
is an IDEApreneur? Katherine Graham said it best, “To do what you love and feel
that it matters; how could anything be more fun?”
You
know what could be more fun? To get paid to do fun work you love and feel
that it matters!
Sam is fortunate to have met fascinating individuals in her 25 years as an
IDEApreneur. The International
Brain of the Year. A National Geographic photographer who speaks to top
corporations and uses his photographs as metaphors for life lessons. Fortune 500
executives, Presidents of national associations. Hall of Fame speakers.
Each
month, you get to “pick the brain” of a respected topic expert. Imagine having
an opportunity to learn from leading authorities who reveal trade secrets about
how they’ve turned insights into income.
Rather than following a set script, Sam actually LISTENS to what the guest
expert says and follows up on intriguing conversational threads because she
knows the most eye-opening, thought-provoking insights happen spontaneously when
we go “deep” into a topic and discover something that hasn’t quite been said
that way before.
These interviews are not purely technique-based (e.g., Do this, this and
that). They are a blend of right and left brain thinking, a balance of logic
and emotion, a combination of art and science.
They
delve into the inspirational, roller coaster lows and highs of the
entrepreneurial journey – while offering concrete suggestions you can replicate
within your own professional (and personal!) life.
Each interview will be different although you can count on specific IDEApreneur-related
questions such as:
1.
How did you get started in this business?
2.
What are a couple of your most important
lessons-learned?
3.
Who has been a mentor or IDEApreneur role model for
you? What is it about them specifically that positively impacted you?
4.
What was an unexpected “Aha,” an insight that was
counter-intuitive or that flew in the face of the norm?
5.
What do you wish someone had told you way back when
that could have saved you a lot of time, money and hassle?
6.
What are two specific tips you have for someone who
wants to become an IDEApreneur?
7.
What’s a particular time as an IDEApreneur that you
thought, “THIS made it all worthwhile.” A triumph or satisfying moment that
captured the essence of why you do what you do.
8.
Do you have a motto or philosophy that keeps you going
– that shapes how you do business?
9.
What’s the most meaningful or rewarding aspect of
being an IDEApreneur?
10.
If you were to give one piece of advice to how someone
can fast-forward their IDEApreneur success, what would that be?

Frequently Asked Questions:
How
Does Sam’s Salon Work and How Much Do These Tele-Interviews Cost?
-
Each tele-interview
lasts 1 hour and begins at 8 pm Eastern time.
-
The cost for each one is
$29, although package plans are available.
-
Payment is made in
advance by check or credit card. (Please note, the bridge line for our call
is not an 800 number, so there will be a nominal charge on your phone bill
for the hour of long-distance calling.
-
Upon registering and
paying for the tele-interview, we will send you complete instructions on how
to call in and how to submit questions in advance if you’d like to “pick the
brain” of our guest expert.
-
Unable to participate in
the live seminar? Rest assured, you can still benefit from the expert’s
insights and listen to the tele-interview on your own time, anytime by
purchasing a recording (on CD or MP3) of the tele-interview prior to or
following the program.
-
If you are registered
and have to cancel, you will not be charged if you cancel at least 48 hours
ahead of time. If you cancel within this 48 hour time frame, you are welcome
to arrange for a colleague to take your place. If you are registered and
miss the program with no advance notice, there will be no refund as that’s
not fair to our guest expert.
What
is a tele-interview?
Tele-interviews are essentially a live conference call . . . on the phone. Sam
asks questions of the guest expert based upon what she thinks will be of highest
interest and value to the majority of the participants. . . . and based on the
interests and priorities of the group, as evidenced by the questions submitted
in advance.
The format
is dynamic, but usually consists of 15 minutes of interview, followed by 15
minutes of questions, another 15 minutes of interview, and a final 15 minutes of
questions – although this format may vary based on the guest’s ability to share
insightful, eye-opening, edge-of-your-seat examples (really!) and the quality of
questions that are submitted in advance.
Sam’s goal
is to make EVERY tele-interview a fascinating, free-flowing, far-ranging
discussion that is full of “I didn’t know that” ideas that have you grabbing for
your pen and taking notes. She knows you’re busy, that you’ve read hundreds of
books and been to dozens of conferences. Her goal is to “raise your eyebrows”
and hold your attention with witty, intelligent, haven’t-heard-that-before ideas
that make every tele-interview time well spent.
How
does this all work?
We arrange
for a "bridge line" which is basically a teleconference line, allowing many
people to call in simultaneously, without an operator assisting. You'll call a
designated number (which you'll receive 3 days before the tele-interview). Rest
assured. Upon registering and paying, we send you a step-by-step guide that
makes this simple process easy-to-understand and do.
How do
I know I've called the right number?
You'll call
in 2-5 minutes before the session is set to begin. In the minutes before
the interview (you can trust Sam to start on time!), Sam will ask your name when
you sign in. Others in the room will hear a short beep to let them know someone
has arrived. We do this so you can get a feel for our eclectic, from around the
country group.
Does
Sam start on time? What if I'll be a little late for the call?
YES! We
know you are busy and we want you to be able to trust that we will always start
on time and end on time. Our goal is to PACK each hour with as many interesting
and useful ideas as possible, so we will hit the ground running and not waste
your time with idle chit chat.
If you dial
in late, Sam will not ask you to introduce yourself and please don’t announce
yourself as it will interrupt our expert.
By the way,
even if you’re really late (you caught in a traffic jam or a meeting ran over),
it’s still worth dialing in. You never know when one gem will make an entire
call worthwhile and that gem might happen in the last 10 minutes of the
interview. If you’re registered and miss the entire interview, you have the
option of buying a recording afterwards (at a discount).
Do I
have to be computer literate?
No. There
are no computers involved. All you need is a phone and the call-in number that
will be provided to you once you’re paid.
Will I
be given a toll-free number to call?
No. We will
be using different numbers for different tele-interviews (there is no one
standard number) but they are not toll-free. You are responsible for paying for
your call, which will appear on your long distance phone bill as a regular long
distance call. No other charges are tacked on to the call, just whatever your
long distance company charges you . We don't make any money whatsoever off the
long distance call.
Will there be a
“Questions and Answers” session as part of the Sam’s Salon Tele-Interview?
We honor the
preference of each expert as to whether we include a “live” Q and A during the
tele-interview. Our primary goal is to provide as much tangible value to ALL
participants, and as you know, “live” questioners sometimes ramble, pontificate,
or ask something that’s relevant only to them. If our guest expert requests
live interaction, we will open the line and have guidelines (e.g., 1 minute max
for each question, which Sam will graciously and firmly enforce) so that as many
people as possible have access to our guest IDEApreneur’s expertise and
experience.
The good
news is, you will ALWAYS have the opportunity to submit written questions (100
word max please) in advance. Sam can’t guarantee that every question will be
addressed in the tele-interview, however she will pose questions to the expert
that are in alignment with his or her topic and that will provide value for the
majority of the listeners.
After registering and paying
for the event, you are welcome to submit (via email to
Sam@SamHorn.com
) up to two questions you would like posed to the Expert. These must be received
at least 24 hours in advance of each tele-interview.
I’ve been on
teleconferences before and it seems there’s often a lot of background noise,
(dogs barking, doors slamming, dishes clinking.) Do you have a way of avoiding
that?
An emphatic
yes! As mentioned, we want this to be a high-quality experience in every way.
That’s why we’re having these tele-interviews professionally recorded. Once you
register and pay, we’ll send call-in directions which include how to mute and
un-mute your phone so everyone can clearly hear the guest expert’s every word. .
. . without distraction.
I have
call waiting. What if I get a call during the teleseminar?
If you have
call waiting, please disable it before calling in. Check your phone book or
contact your telephone company to get the Disable Call Waiting code for your
area. Depending on your phone service, it may be one
of the
following three codes: *70, 70# or 1170.
