Business IS Personal – The Better Newsletter #125

ANECDOTE

We all know social media can be soul-sucking if we use it solely to doom scroll, compare, compete, and promote our services and products.

The good news is, social media can also be a Force for Good if we use it to celebrate people who are adding value and making the world a better place.

I was asked on a recent podcast, “Who’s made the MOST difference for you and your career?”

The answer was clear. My Business Manager and sister, Cheri Grimm.

Cheri has been running The Intrigue Agency for 30+ years. When I show up at speaking engagements, the first thing meeting planners say is, “Can we clone Cheri?”

Cheri believes business IS personal. She often begins emails and calls with grace notes like, “Last time we talked, your mom was in the hospital. How is she?”

She’s also a counselor, cheerleader, and accountability buddy. If I’m at a crossroads trying to make a decision, she adds a balancing perspective that aligns us with our VVV (Values, Voice, Vision).

There’s a word that expresses what it’s like sharing my life and work with Cheri.

I once asked award-winning radio DJ’s Perry & Price what it was like working together for 33 years.

He thought for a moment and said one word.

“Tacit.”

We know each other so well, we don’t have to communicate out loud. We just intuit what the other person is going to say or do.”

That’s how I feel about Cheri.

Tacit.
