ANECDOTE
Have you heard the old parable about the Mexican fisherman featured above?
Folks, we don’t need a bigger boat, and we don’t need more boats. We need to appreciate and enjoy the boat we already have.
Here’s one of the reasons I’m so clear about this.
I’ve been working on my Force for Good book for a while now. It was supposed to be finished last year, but life had other plans.
I conducted sixty interviews. It takes time to distill each story into 3-4 intriguing pages. It takes time to craft original, real-life insights so they ring and sing.
It’s hard work. And it’s worth every single minute. After all, it’s called a body of WORK for a reason.
As I dove into my manuscript this morning, I thought, “I am in an exalted space.” Then I looked up that word, as I wasn’t quite sure what it meant.
Exalted is a state of extreme happiness. Yep, that’s me. The Muse is pouring into me and through me.
It is a joy to share these examples of man and woman’s humanity to man and woman. It is a blessing to have the agency to go all in on my voice, vision, and values.
I welcome the opportunity to create this message in-a-bottle that will hopefully resonate with people for years to come.
Other than my family, friends, agency, and health, my mind and soul are my greatest blessings.
What a privilege it is to use them for good, to make the intangible tangible.
What a gift to think, see, hear, feel, and experience something that gets my eyebrows up, to be able to put that into words and share it in the hopes it might make a difference.
ACTION
There’s a lot of noise out there these days about doing things easier, faster. About doing your work for you so you don’t have to do it yourself. As if that’s the holy grail.
Next time someone tries to sell you on how they’ll do your work for you, easier and faster, just look at them, smile, and say, “Thanks, I enjoy the boat I already have.”
Then, take a pause and ask yourself:
When will we appreciate our brain’s miraculous ability to create something from nothing?
When will we treat our human brain and imagination with the respect they deserve?
