Stuck? Do This! – The Better Newsletter #29

ANECDOTE

Last year, my book launch for Talking on Eggshells was coming up and I was stuck.

I was going back-and-forth about what I “should” do. After all, there are so many ways to do a book launch and I just couldn’t decide which was the BEST way.

In the old days, I used to fly to cities, give public workshops, do in-person media interviews, and hold book signings.

Nowadays, it’s often smarter (and less expensive) to do a virtual tour via podcasts, social media, affiliate marketing, etc.

So, I did what I always do – when I don’t know what to do.

I sat down and wrote it all down and I quickly realized, it wasn’t an either/or decision, it could be the best of BOTH worlds.

I stopped trying to figure out the BEST way to move forward, and simply started moving forward.

I picked up the phone and called people, sat down at the computer and started emailing people.

And guess what?? It felt so good!

After all, “a body at motion stays in motion,” so once I started moving, I quickly got the corner pieces of the book tour filled in, and other people were jumping on my book tour bandwagon because I finally got it out of the garage.

What is my lesson from all of this? Equivocation is the thief of dreams.

If you wait to know before you go, you’ll never go.

ACTION

  • Grab a piece of paper and write down a decision you need to make – or an action you want to take.

  • Are you going back and forth about the best way to do it? If so, that’s rocking chair thinking – it gives you something to do but doesn’t get you anywhere.

  • Instead, write down what you WANT to happen and then write down 3 things you could do TODAY that would get you even a little bit closer to that result. AKA: Get your bandwagon out of the garage – so people can jump on it!

  • For example:
    • Ask for help.
    • Pick up the phone.
    • Send out an email.
    • Sign up for a class.
    • Make that appointment.

Until next time… Here’s to being better.
