Trust FALL or Trust CALL? – The Better Newsletter #55

A while back, I was talking to my friend who was moving on from a relationship.

It’s not that it was terribly wrong, it just wasn’t what she fully wanted.

She sighed, “I guess it’s just a trust fall.”

Something about that phrase felt wrong, because a trust fall is based on the hope someone will be there to catch you.

I didn’t believe she was doing it in the hopes someone would catch her.

So, my brain did what my brain does and looked for language that felt more “right.”

It looked for words that more accurately described what was happening.

Then it juxtaposed, alliterated, rhythmed and rhymed to POP! a fresh phrase.

Eureka! I laughed out loud, “It’s not a trust FALL. It’s a trust CALL.

Yep. That felt MUCH better.

She trusted there was a more aligned 1+1=11 relationship out there.

She had the clarity and courage to move on from something that wasn’t horrible, but also wasn’t 100% – all in faith that she’ll find (or create) something that is.

ACTION

  • How about you? Are you in a situation that’s not what you fully want? Could be personally or professionally…

  • The first step, of course, is to do what you can – in tandem – to create a partnership or situation that IS more aligned with what you want.

  • If you’ve tried to do that for months (years?) and realize it’s never going to happen… then maybe it’s time to make a trust CALL.
