A podcaster recently asked for my BEST writing experience. I didn’t even have to think about it. I told him, “It was writing my “What’s Holding You Back?” book.
I wrote it entirely after 10 o’clock at night, after putting my young sons to bed.
It was like entering that exquisite zen state where I was immersed in what wanted to be said.
I would ‘come to” – often around 3 o’clock in the morning – and read what I’d written. I knew I wrote it, but it was better than I could have done on my own.
Almost as if I had partnered with the muse which caused the words to flow out so fast, my fingers could hardly keep up.
When I turned my manuscript in to my agent at St. Martin’s Press, she said, “Sam, it flows like a symphony. I wouldn’t change a word.”
That experience still reminds me that when we honor the muse, sometimes the muse honors us right back.
ACTION
Are you working on a book or writing project? If so try this.
After the day is done, go to your special place. Put on harmonic music in the background – Brandenburg Concertos is known to boost energy and creativity, here’s one I like – and just start writing.
In that quiet space with no distractions, you too may meet up with the muse and produce work that is better than you realize.
Happy writing!
